My name is Senor Bonilla.
I recently joined the Oakhill Academy team as the grades K– 8 Spanish Teacher and World Language Coordinator.
I was born and raised in San José, Costa Rica. I am fully bilingual in both Spanish and English, so your children will be participating in authentic introductions to the culture and idioms of the Spanish-speaking world.
I believe that learning a second language fosters academic achievement, improves cognitive development, and helps children develop a positive attitude toward cultures other than their own.
I have many years of teaching experience, including thirteen years with public elementary and high schools in the Los Angeles Unified School District. I have also taught Spanish at private schools and at the university level.
My degrees in Spanish include a B.A. from Kean University of N.J. and an M.A. from the University of Massachusetts. I have earned a California Professional Clear Multiple Subject Teaching Credential with a Spanish Supplementary Authorization; a California Clear Bilingual, Cross cultural, Language and Academic Development Certificate targeted to the Spanish Language; a California Community Colleges Spanish Instructor Credential; and a California Professional Clear Single Subject Spanish Credential.
